Made an early start to beat the Easter crowds. It was a holiday weekend and the sun was shining. The trip up went smoothly, so much so, I thought that all the traffic had beat me to it and I was going to be welcomed with a full car park at the ski centre. Instead, I was surprised to see the place wasn’t even half full. Turns out only 300 people were on the hill. There was only very patchy high cloud and the sun was bright. The temperatures were easily above zero. There was no wind to speak of. The guys at Coe had also managed to patch up the Poma track, so there was no need to walk. The bulk of snow was from base of Mugs Alley to the summit. All upper runs gave plenty of depth and topped with lumpy spring snow. Main basin and Happy Valley were great and the wall was in good shape too. Spring Run offered the longest single run. I went into Flypaper, Coe’s steepest. I messed up, hesitating and side slipped down the slushy black run. I must try harder. Next season I’m going to try this until I nail it properly. It was an amazing day without any crowds, and thankfully all lifts running.
