I was up early today, having done an airport run at 5:00am. The car was frozen in the morning and the sky was clear for day 2 of the 14/15 season. I collected Beth, my niece and Seth, visiting from the U.S. as I had promised to show them the sights.
On arrival at the carpark it looked pretty busy, but on the hill this seemed to be more sight-seers as the lifts weren’t too bad.
There was not a huge covering, but most runs were functioning. All lifts were operational. I didn’t use the Plateau run, as Cliffy was open. I started with some warm up laps down Mugs Alley, ample coverage here just now, but as with the other lower runs, some rocks and stones were sticking through providing the odd early season scratch to my base.
I headed over to the Wall. This had some of the best snow and was receiving lots of attention.
It wasn’t long before I noticed the top T-bar for Main Basin was running and I went for the top. The views from the top were stunning in the bright winter sunshine.

Main Basin itself was groomed, which is unusual, but this helped provide for some fast cruising runs. I did trip myself up, turning heel side off a small ledge and losing balance. Fortunately it was a soft landing, so no harm done.
While I as snowboarding Beth and Seth exploded the hill, used the sledges provided and had a bite to eat in the Plateau Cafe.
I called it a day fairly early so I could take them into Glencoe itself and grab some photos for Beth’s school course.
Overall the conditions were pretty good considering it’s early season.
There were some wind scoured areas, Rannoch Glades needs deeper coverage and I didn’t try Spring Run, Happy Valley or Etive Glades.
Blizzards and more unsettled weather are on their way for New Year, so hopefully this will bring further snow for the season ahead.
Cold temperatures and clear skies today were great, but we early need snowy storms if we are to get a where never the depth of snow achieved last year!
