Glencoe

Day 28 of Scottish season 15/16. The drive up today was beautiful. I left Glasgow in brilliant Spring sunshine and traveled up through Loch Lomond where the cloud was starting to encroach. It had been cold over night so the snow had set up hard so I was in no rush. I thought I’d let the snow soften. The cloud was high so the summit was clear of cloud and bright enough. The cold persisted and the snow remained hard but main basin had been pisted so this is where I spent most of my day. Chat on the lifts was that Spring Run was boiler plate hard so best left for while. The Flypaper was also an issue and the Junior Coe Cup had to be be cancelled.

Happy Valley had been posted too so this was in great shape. The snow didn’t really soften up outside of the posted areas except lower down on Mugs Alley where the brief moments of sun started turning the snow to corn snow.

A few flurries of snow came through, but never amounted to much. I had been hoping for some fresh snow as well as sunshine, neither really materialised, BT conditions are great with loads of snow for the time of year. The Lecht and Glenshee are closed and Nevis Range is closing this weekend, so it’s only Cairngorm of ‘Natural Retreats’ as they wish to be called and of course the mighty Coe that are still open. Glencoe hope to get into the first week in May at least.

I decided to stay up over the weekend. I was hoping to grab some evening or night photos, but the weather doesn’t look like it will comply. I grabbed some nice evening light on the Glencoe house the banks of Loch Achtriochtan before missing out on food at the Clachaig. It was super busy so I decided to head back and try the Kingshouse. I managed to get dinner just before nine and I’m now writing this up there right now.

Tomorrow isn’t looking great and it may just be a morning for me so I can get back down the road in good time.

It was a clear night wit moon and stats out so I spent the rest of the night making photos outside the Kingshouse Hotel and down the start of the Glen Etive road. Making ‘camp’ (in the car) in a passing place for the night.
