Day 20 of Scottish season 14/15. The bright conditions continue. A shorter drive as I leave from Cardross. Thin sets of cloud pass over from the East. Nothing too thick as the sun burns through. My neck is feeling it and I wear my neck warmer for most of the morning. Today is another hoody and no gloves day. The goggle tan is coming along now!
As soon as I’m up the hill I go straight for the Wall T-bar and up to Main Basin. The snow is still a touch crispy. It would have re-frozen last night and the sun needed a bit more time to soften it.
There were no events to speak of today and there were noticeably fewer people at the lifts. I could pretty much go straight to the front of line each time. There was still the end of season, relaxed feel to the place as everyone alternated skiing with sunbathing. The numbers increased slightly after lunch as more people made their way up for an afternoon.
The snow softened and the moguls seemed to grow in size in the Basin. All upper runs held up well in the sunshine and all lifts are running with only the Plateau run lacking snow (Etive Glades and Rannoch Glades have not had any all season so they don’t count).
The main freestyle park has been moved up to Main Basin but there are still jumps and and a rail below Thrombosis heading towards the bottom of the Canyon.
Depending on the weather, Glencoe plan on staying open till the 4th May. Nevis Range had its final day of the season, so it’s now just Glencoe and Cairngorm still offering uplift.
Fingers crossed for a couple more weekends.
