Gathering

I had to make a flying visit to the Glencoe Mountain Resort on Saturday morning as I had evening commitments. It was a grey start as I walked up the track to the Plateau Cafe. The bass was bumping as the Gathering Park sessions was in full swing. Nice to see the folk out, and that they made the park work with minimal snow and a lot of graft. As usual an epic effort by the Coe Crew and the Snowpark Scotland.

A good turnout for The Gathering Park Session

As the sun started to peak out, I donned my skins and started my way up Mugs Alley. It was #GoSplitboardDay after all. The snow was heavy and baking in the sun.

I crossed streams and climbed part way up Spring Run, just to get a few turns in. Then it was up past the rescue hut and Happy Valley. I had a look into Main Basin and it looked like I’d get a line in there at least through the islands of rocks.

There were a few tourers making their way to the summit so I wasn’t alone when I transitioned back to the board. Some of the skiers entered Main Basin first and shouted up to clarify there was some decent snow. I dropped in hugging the leeward slopes and made a few big turns in the lovely soft snow. I’d checked out a route on the way up and decided to aim for Happy Valley via the crossover, I continued down to the Wall and made it all the way down to the bridge and the Plateau Cafe. Arguably the longest run I’d had all season.

After another check-in at the park session, it was time for me to head back to Glasgow.

Glad I did it on my 10th day at Coe this season. We really need to get snow dancing again….don’t stop believing. Thanks again to Ski and Ski ‘n’ Boardroom for their service support.
