Day 8 of season 14/15. Decided to opt for the Sunday as weather was looking decidedly better than Saturday, and I had promised to pick up the folks at the airport.
We arrived at a busy carpark and although I have my season pass I waited with Graeme in the ticket queue. Luckily walking down the line of people which was about an hour long, David another Coe regular stopped for a chat and offered for his friend to get at ticket. So we were off up the hill almost immediately.
It was forecast to be windy. Yesterday Coe had closed early due to the wild northerlies. Today you could hardly feel a breath. The sun was also daring to make an appearance.
Snow conditions were great. Large expanses were icy or scoured, but what fresh snow there was, was in the right place.
Main Basin was fluffy with nice bumps. We did the Canyon, tried Etive Glades, but that was a non starter. Then round the back of the Wall for some slashes in sunlit heavy wind packed powder, with a walk out. Mugs Alley gave good sport, where the Wall tired your legs out.
We didn’t try Spring Run as it was closed as was the Fly Paper which is still avalanche prone.
We finished the day with the Carpark run which was also in good shape. Not the powder from a few weeks ago, but great condition none the less.
