Glencoe, Sunday 19th January 2014

Made an early start on this driech day so we could get to Coe before 9. Made good time and got to an already half full car park. The wind was moderate but the rain was persistent. On arrival at the bottom of the plateau lift the rain was still coming down, but easing with the odd snowflake. The bottom runs still had good cover of wet snow. Mugs Alley also has excellent cover. Ski anywhere and no queues, all lifts except the top button were running. No real ice to speak of and temperatures hovering around zero. The snow was excellent up in Main Basin but as you’d expect on a day like today the visibility was poor. Once you found good snow though this wasn’t a problem, although finding the lift back up was a bit hit and miss. A good day despite the overhead condition, the good snow made it worth the early start. I did give my self a bit of a clatter near the end of the day, catching my heel edge and giving myself a bit of whiplash, and hearing a nasty crunch coming from my neck. Clear conditions never materialised as the forecast had said, but the hundreds who were up on World Snow Day seemed to be enjoying the snow!
