I’d stayed in Aviemore to see what Saturday would bring to Cairngorm Mountain. Lifts had been running Friday afternoon and they were indeed on again for Saturday. I decided to dump the bag and make the most of the lift-served summit area. Ptarmigan Bowl offered some hazy, sun-baked powder, lapped that higher and further each time until it was completely tracked out.

I did manage some decent turns. I bumped into Jonny. He was gutted his Upbattle Splitboarding event couldn’t go ahead. He asked if I was going to the rail jam at the Pine Marten Bar. He would be judging at the Pine MT.Lab event. I thought “why not” and headed down after lunch to the Loch Morlich area and joined the growing crowd that was surrounding the ‘transported’ snow on top of the dry slope.

The riders were launching onto rails and jibs on 2 tiny slopes. Vibes were high and it was great to see so many riders and onlookers enjoying the day.
This weekend’s snow was unexpected, and the forecast is looking pretty dry. So, unless there is a miracle, it looks like the season is coming to an end. Pretty sad. It never really got started. I really hope next season brings us the snow.
