Ben Lawers Recce

With further easing of lockdown I visited Ben Lawers and Beinn Ghlas with the intention of coming back during the winter months. I was looking for aspects of the mountain that would provide easy access and fun descents on snow. But first I thought I’d familiarise myself with the the range before the snows fell.

I set off from Glasgow on my bike to jump on the train to my parents as I’d be borrowing their car. It was an early start.

Recce Notes

Fairly easy going on the path from the car park. 2.5kph walking speed. Visibility variable.

Snowboarding possibilities on the West face off the bealach between Nine Ghlas and Lawers.Ghlas NW face may be possible with some cliff bands plus possible terrain trap at river confluence in valley below.

North facing corrie from Lawers summit has cliffs, but riders left looks good.
