Familiar Faces

Saturday started early, knowing the wind was likely to pick up as the day went on. By 9 AM, I was already on the slopes, feeling the moisture in the breeze as I reached the plateau of Meall a’ Bhuiridh. The poma took me across the plateau for a cruisy warm-up run down to the Cliffy Chairlift.

Mugs Alley was firm—overnight winds had dried out the snowpack, leaving conditions on the harder side. It was clear that groomed runs would be the best option today, rather than venturing onto steeper faces like The Wall, which had been in great shape on Friday. I spent the morning carving up Rankin’s Return and Mugs Alley, enjoying the empty slopes and lack of lift lines compared to the day before.

I’d considered hiking to the summit on my splitboard, but with the wind increasing and cloud cover thickening, I decided against it. By midday, light rain started creeping in, though the snow was holding up well—it’s all part of the freeze-thaw cycle. Hopefully, the balance tips more towards freeze in the coming days.

One of the highlights of the weekend was catching up with so many familiar faces—always great to see everyone getting their snow fix. As the mist thickened, I decided to call it a day and save my energy for Sunday, when a fresh dusting of snow is expected. Fingers crossed!
